How does player substitution work in matches?

How a player hands their match spot to someone else, and how the original player is refunded.

Written by Nettla

A player who can't make a split-payment match can ask another player to take their spot. When the substitute joins and pays, the original player is refunded in full automatically.

When substitution is possible

  • Public matches and private matches with split payment.

  • Only before the match starts.

  • Not for court bookings or private matches paid in full.

How it works

  1. In the app, the player opens the match and taps Find a substitute.

  2. They choose a player and tap to ask them to take their spot.

  3. That player gets a push notification.

  4. The substitute joins and pays their share.

  5. The original player is refunded 100%.

Refunds

  • The refund goes back to the original payment method.

  • If Refund to Club Wallet is turned on in Settings → Rules & Limits → Cancellations, the refund goes to the player's Club Wallet instead.

Good to know

  • The original player keeps their spot until the substitute has paid.

  • The substitute must meet the match's level and gender rules.

  • Substitution is useful after the leave deadline: once a match is past its last automatic cancellation threshold, players can't leave themselves, but they can still find a substitute or contact the club.
