How does a player get their starting level?

How new players choose their own level in the app, and how staff can set a starting level instead.

Written by Nettla

A new player gets a level in one of two ways: they choose it themselves in the app the first time they join a match or activity that needs a level, or a staff member sets it for them in the admin.

When the player chooses their level

  • The app shows a slider from 1.0 to 7.0 in steps of 0.5, starting at 3.0.

  • Each category shows a short description to help them choose.

  • If your club has set a maximum self-reported level, the player can't choose above it.

  • After their first choice:

    • Padel players can only lower their level themselves. Matches then move it up or down.

    • Tennis players can't change it themselves at all.

When staff set the starting level

  1. Go to Players → Player List.

  2. Open the player.

  3. Open the Level tab (called Padel level or Tennis level if your club has both sports).

  4. Click Set level.

  5. Enter the level (1 to 7, one decimal allowed).

  6. Click Save.

You need the administrator permission Edit player levels.

Good to know

  • To limit how high new players can rate themselves, see "Can we set a maximum level that new players can choose for themselves?".

  • To change a level that already exists, see "How do I change a player's level?".
