How do tennis levels work?

How tennis players get a level, who can change it, and why it doesn't update after matches.

Written by Nettla

Tennis uses the same 1.00–7.00 scale and category names as padel, but tennis levels don't update automatically after matches. A player sets their tennis level once, and after that only your staff can change it.

How a player gets a tennis level

  • The first time a player joins a tennis match or activity that needs a level, the app asks them to choose one on a slider (in steps of 0.5), with a description for each category.

  • After that first choice, the player can't change their tennis level themselves.

  • If your club has a maximum self-reported tennis level, the player can't choose above it. See "Can we set a maximum level that new players can choose for themselves?".

How staff set or change a tennis level

  1. Go to Players → Player List.

  2. Open the player.

  3. Open the Tennis level tab (it is called Level if tennis is your only sport with levels).

  4. Click Set level if the player has no level yet, or the pencil icon to edit it.

  5. Enter the level (1 to 7, one decimal allowed).

  6. Click Save.

You need the administrator permission Edit player levels to do this.

Good to know

  • Tennis match results don't change levels. Only staff edits do.

  • There is no limit on how much or how often staff can change a tennis level.

  • League rounds can still record tennis results for standings.
