How do tax rates work in Nettla and Stripe?

Set a standard tax rate for your company, override it for some products, and see it in your Stripe export.

Written by Nettla

You set one standard tax rate for your company. Nettla sends it with each payment to Stripe as metadata, so it appears in your Stripe export. You can override it for some products. Nettla isn't your accounting or tax system; the rate is there to help your bookkeeping.

How to set your standard tax rate

  1. Go to Dashboard and open your company.

  2. Go to Settings → The Company.

  3. Open the Company Profile tab.

  4. Enter the Standard tax rate (%).

  5. Click Save, then Confirm.

The standard rate applies to every club in your company.

Where you can override the rate

  • Activity types: turn on Custom Tax Rate on the activity type.

  • Membership types: turn on Custom Tax Rate on the membership.

  • Club wallets: in the Tax section, turn on Custom Tax Rate.

  • Private coaching: turn on Custom Tax Rate on the coach's profile.

  • Bespoke bookings and recurring bookings: turn on Override tax rate (%) when you create the booking in the calendar.

  • Inventory items: enter the Tax rate (%) on each item under Shop → Inventory.

What always uses the standard rate

  • Court bookings.

  • Matches.

You can't override the rate for these.

Good to know

  • Inventory items don't fall back to the standard rate. If you leave Tax rate (%) empty, no tax rate is sent for that item, so enter the rate on every item.

  • League entries and league matches are currently sent with a 0% tax rate.

  • The tax rate appears inside the lineItems metadata in your Stripe export, as taxRate. See "What Nettla data is included in our Stripe export?".

  • Changing a rate only affects new payments.
